I'm trying desperately to catch up on blog posts, because I realize we haven't updated since October! Just a sign that things have been busy.
In early November, we had an appointment with what amounts to a CPA in Florence. This role is called the "commercialista," and everyone needs one. It appears that there is no self-filing for taxes in Italy, and ours are more complicated than many given the requirement to file in both countries. Because of this, our best bet was a firm in Florence; the commercialisti here don't also have expertise in American taxes, and we didn't want to structure things in such a way as to minimize taxes here and end up hammered on the other side of the ocean.
As a result, we toodled off to Florence in the 6:35 train, arriving just after 8:00. This gave us plenty of time to have coffee and find the office prior to our meeting time; it was a nasty, rainy day, though, so we weren't really interested in prolonging our stay.
The offices, however, were worth seeing. I took a few clandestine photos (so as not to be a total tourist about it) for posterity.
Love,

Once inside the office suite, we enjoyed these historic (guessing 1800s, so not OLD old) frescoes |
