Mary Poppins left her shoes here

I finally finished my second pair of shoes! The leather work has been done for a few weeks, but I had to trim the ribbons and it just took me a while.

It was particularly fun bringing my sewing experience to bear. My teacher didn't know anything about concealed zippers or how to install a zipper without making it go under the foot and into the sole area, for example. He loved that! He'd also never heard of or seen pinking shears, and they absolutely delighted him.

My imagination went a little wild, and I wasn't able to realize everything perfectly given the limitations of the machine, having to pacify a grumpy old man (my teacher) with bad eyesight, and my own general lack of experience. But the first time I ever saw Sr. Zoppini chuckle with glee was when he finally understood my overall vision. He just kept repeating, "che geniale...," which made me feel like I'd really accomplished something, viz. making an old man delighted again! Despite the many flaws, overall, I'm pretty pleased.

Love,

Alexandra
