There's a little creature here called the "pappataci" that is the length of 2 pinheads and less than a pinhead across. It's hardly visible, in other words.
But you know what it does? It BITES! And you don't feel the bite until about an hour later -- meaning that you can't even console yourself by squishing the dratted thing. According to Wikipedia, the bite is "several times as itchy" (how does one measure itchiness, I wonder?) than a mosquito bite.
Here's the thing: you first see a welt about twice as big as a mosquito bite. And you want to tear your skin off to get rid of the itch. The next day (assuming you have exerted self-control and still have skin), it turns into a lymph-filled blister about 1/2 the size of a pencil eraser.
Yuck.
But that's okay. I've been told they'll be gone just in time for mosquito season.
Love,
Alexandra
