I can't stay in one place for long! With all the cheap airfares, how can one resist? Especially since the kids don't need me to drive them everywhere, I'm completely footloose...
Today I booked a flight to England for January; I'm going to visit my cousin Paula and her family (it'll be my first time seeing sweet Daisy -- and she's already a little girl, no longer a baby!), aunt Kitty, and uncle Dick! The best part? Round trip airfare = $100 (dollars, not euros), and train fares will add about another $75. A week in England with relatives for $175? Hard to beat.
Arguably, January is not the best time to go to England. Let's be honest, it's about the worst time to go, at least as far as the weather goes. It will be dark very early, likely damp, and so on. A cute side note: today I was having my lace lesson (another post on that later), and someone came into the merceria to buy something. One of the proffered colors was "Londra" (which is "London" in Italian). I couldn't resist checking out my hunch, so I asked the merceria lady what color Londra was. Sure enough -- dark gray!
I'm also trying to see Camille (my dad's sister) before the end of the year. As long as the weather is grim, the airfares are low. With any luck we can make it work.
I'd forgotten how much fun it is to be independent!
Love,
Alexandra
What a nice get-a-way for you in January. I'm envious!
