Family Portrait

Jim, my father-in-law, suggested that we take one last family portrait before Eleanor goes off to college. Since the last one we'd had done was when Eleanor was about...oh...4, we thought it a good idea. Of course, we'd had and informal one done by Jim when she was about 14 as well. Still. Maybe it WAS time.

The next step? Find the local "portrait studio". Easily accomplished: there's a local fellow who posts beautiful scenery on Facebook, so I messaged him asking if he did portraits.

No, but he sent me the name of the person who does! Messaged him, set an appointment for this morning, and we all got ready. There was quite the flurry of girl action going on with hair and ironing and fussing and checking different outfits.

Different problem with the boys. Jeremy sat wearing a navy and grey wide horizontal striped shirt. Um, no. At least his hair was combed! Time to change...his black shirt would be perfect! With much grumbling, he pulled out the shirt (which appeared to have been stored in the bottom of the closet) and donned it.

Giovanni rang the bell! We made our hasty last-minute preparations and reparations, and went down for the consultation. Where would the light be best? Which scenery would work well?

Two minutes later, we set off for the giardinetti. That way, we could have Todi in the background.

Ten minutes later, we were done. Giovanni was brisk, sweet, had us smiling, and took several shots.

As we walked back up the hill together, we saw Leonardo. Turns out they're buddies, too! Michael and I enjoyed our breakfast courtesy of Giovanni at Pianegiani.

Later, Giovanni messaged me: the pictures are ready and on CD. We met up at Pianegiani and he cheerfully handed me the disk. Total cost? 10 euros. Of course, they're copyrighted, so we buy any printed copies from him and a similarly reasonable price, I'm sure.

Love,

Alexandra
