Farmhouse in Herstmonceux

We started our vacation in England with a visit to Alexandra's Aunt Camille in Herstmonceux.  The original plan had been to stay with her at her house, but since she managed to sell it after two years of trying we stayed at a B&B nearby.

This was a classic British B&B: a farmhouse originally built in the 16th century, down a single-track road hemmed in by walls and hedges.  So classic, actually, that we had to wait for the cows to finish crossing the road before we could get down the lane.

This was the B&B itself.  Those are clay tiles on the roof and upper walls.  The children's rooms were the ones in those upper gables.

We arrived just in time for tea.  Sadly, the weather did not cooperate with our having tea outside in the beautiful garden, so we had to content ourselves with the garden room instead.

Once the storm passed, we had views from our bedroom window that would make a Microsoft Windows background jealous.

The children's rooms were too cute to be believed.  They were way up on the top floor carved into space under the roof.

Girls' room, complete with Ashley and Florence, Ashley being in a silly mood:

Can you see Florence sitting here and reading all day?  We can!

Boys' room and view from boys' room:

The top-floor bathroom did not have a shower, there being barely enough room to stand, but it did have...
