The "Disfida di San Fortunato" ("The Challenge of Saint Fortunatus") took place in centro today (as if that weren't enough, there was also a Vespa rally). Starting with the main event (an archery competition, where after a rocky start, Florence acquitted herself very well), including a fair, and side events like the flag guys (I don't know their proper designation), medieval dancers, bands, drums, and then the procession for Mass...ending with fire blowers, a choreographed burning sword fight/dance, and yes! Porchetta sandwiches (for free) at the Duomo.
Here are some pictures of the day:
Having left home dressed in the 21st century this morning, Jeremy confused me by bouncing up to me in attire that was rather dated (he explained that he'd been roped into giving a fencing demonstration):

I loved Jeremy's spare dagger... |

And the procession begins...

Florence dead center! |

All together, now! |

Shall we dance? |

A little sword action |

The sprite was just precious! |

Loved the bubble against the clouds |
