Residential Energy Audit

I finally got around to checking out my electric bill. Bear in mind that we use electricity for lights, refrigeration, dryer, washer, hair dryer, and freezer (plus computers and whatever miscellaneous). There is no air conditioner. There are, however, currently six people living in the house.

Between the two apartments that we rent (we have I think around 1400-1500 sf), our peak consumption (in December) was 550 kWh (but we also had 3 guests that month for most of the month). Our lowest consumption (in June) was 250 kWh.

The bills come every other month, but the rate is as follows:

per kWh (peak, based on TOD)...22 cents
per kWh (off-peak) .... 20 cents
Fixed charges $1.80 per month
Demand charges, per kW (this is a fixed, requested demand which is controlled by a breaker switch): $1.50

Tax at 10%

My most recent bill (for two months) was $160.

So...cost per kWh is rather high, but the consumption is extraordinarily low.

(Oh, and natural gas is about $0.76 a cubic meter)

Love,

Alexandra
