An Archery Competition

May first, Jeremy and I had our first archery competition- on our own bows! (blog post to follow) I got 99 points out of a possible 279 (11 targets, 3 shots per target, maximum points per shot 8, plus one target with a maximum of 15 points). I think that the best score that someone got was 224 or something like that. It is probably best to post the photos and then go and explain than try to just write about it.
Lunch!
(but we didn't go)

The targets. Pay attention to the one on the far right. The third one on the left, I'll explain it later on

Another one that needs explanation and a clear diagram.

The big black boar in the background was one that we shot at from 30 meters away

One shot for each "porta"
The bullseye was the gateway
Note the target on the right in the background. You had to switch bows with someone else for this, except Jeremy and I didn't because we couldn't safely use the stronger bows that they had on offer...

Getting started

It appears to be a common habit to "wear" your bow across your shoulder

The younger ones got to shoot from closer up,
due to the fact that their bows  are physically unable to shoot as far as ours are

The timer is for one of the targets (three shots in thirty seconds)
that was for shooting at the soldier

Eleanor and Jeremy in the foreground,
Matteo in the background, wearing a striped shirt

Me, with a bit of Granddad and Eleanor's hands (she's holding a beetle that she found on the ground)

Jeremy and me in action, Mateo just behind us, making sure that we aren't messing up dangerously

Matteo about to shoot (yes he is standing backwards, and he does shoot like that sometimes- it's harder because you have to twist your body before even trying to aim)

Our little archer (I think he is under seven)

Nice bag!

My arrows!

This is in the middle of an archery competition, and yes  he is going to be shooting in a little bit (oh and everybody got some prosecco, Jeremy and me included)

Prize giving
For this target you shoot one of the hanging cans (actually cardboard tubes filled with Great Stuff with a bit of can to attach it magnetically to the string). If you hit it on the first shot it was worth 15 points, on the second it was worth 10 points and on the third it was worth 5 points.

This is the target that looks like a clock. It was a bit hard to see the boundaries, so I thought that I'd do a diagram. You shoot at one side only. If you hit the red circle, you get eight points, if you hit the light blue circle you get five points if you hit the dark blue shape you get two points, the rest is worth nothing, thus you could aim at the bullseye, but if you miss it, it can have some bad consequences point-wise.
