Views of Verona

Here's the challenge we face: when we have a ton of interesting things going on, we don't have time to blog. And yet, when we have time to sit down and try to recollect, we have lost a lot of memories. Plus, somehow our impressions blur into a feeling rather than the individual silly stories that I like to document.

So. How to start with Verona? The setting of Romeo and Juliet, which is exploited like nobody's business, including "Juliet's House" which is completely fabricated nonsense. We gave that a miss.

We went by train and enjoyed the relaxation of 3 connections...which is nonetheless generally considerably more pleasant than driving in cramped conditions, getting cranky driving through unfamiliar towns, and -- horror of horrors! -- trying to find parking for a large van!

Our B&B hostess is a lovely woman by the name of Laura, and she was intent on stuffing us like the turkeys we are. Her expressed motivation was to allow us not to have to pay for lunch out, but rather to last through until dinner. It worked, generally speaking. Of course, there was still gelato time mid-afternoon, yes? Oh, yes.

Chinese! Complete with lazy Susan!

Love,

Alexandra
