Phew! We did it!!! Another year, another Christmas puzzle solved!
After lunch, Michael gave the kids the key to the cash box. Inside was...a Rubik's cube. Mixed up. With letters on it. Prior to having Jeremy rearrange it, we documented the initial position (just in case, right?). We figured pretty quickly that it had to do with the 3tre puzzle (the sets of three numbers all ranging between 1 and 3) and guessed that it had to do with coordinates (as in, graphing in three dimensions). However, actually executing this was a challenge.
Florence stuck with it, though, and did a little troubleshooting for Michael. Difficulties resolved, the message read: "Merry Christmas children stop you have been great sports about my silly puzzle stop Eleanor Mummy has your present stop everyone else has a present under the coffee table stop sort of stop love Daddy."
Much excitement. Much scurrying to examine coffee tables. Moving the coffee table off the carpet. Unrolling the carpet. Under the carpet, under the coffee table, we have...a sheet of paper! In code, we have a combination directions/Rubiks/card code that says Merry Christmas and the list
2017.153425
46.231145
10.836104
Eleanor caught on that the top number was a date, so Jeremy converted the decimal to dates, and determined that it meant February 26. Florence quickly checked map coordinates to discover...Madonna di Campiglio, our favorite skiing spot so far here in Italy! It's reasonably close to Todi (ish) while offering extensive ski opportunities. And the bombardino in my favorite bar!
A job well done by all!
Love,
Alexandra
