Some of us may have mentioned that we made a few friends at
the pool—six, to be exact. Although we
had to leave, we agreed to meet them again today “nel pomeriggio”. Since the Italian afternoon starts at four,
after the pausa, we didn’t see them for quite a while despite constant trips to
our famous window. At about 4:30 Eleanor
messaged Giulia, inquiring at what time “nel pomeriggio” meant, and was
informed that they were already gathering in a bar (coffee shop) down the
street. So out we set.
Lucia with her gelato! |
Giulia, Aurora, Lucia, Matteo, and Nicolo were there, as
well as a few of their other friends, whom we learned were Alessia, Anna, and Klara. After an Italian greeting (lots
of hugs and kisses) we sauntered over to San Fortunato, and entertained
ourselves by posing on the steps and taking pictures. At this point, the boys and Aurora had to
leave (more hugs and kisses), but the rest of us made our way to the park. We promptly decided that refreshments were in
order, and after the word “gelato” was passed around James would not stop
saying, “Sì,
sì!” So off we set.
Ten minutes and several euros later, we were sitting in the
shade happily licking our gelato.
Eventually, we decided to go back to the park, where we compared music (“Whistle
Baby” and “Boyfriend” amused us) and generally did nothing—with the exception
of James and Florence, who don’t handle sugar as well as the rest of us and ran
around like lunatics.
At about 6:30 we decided that we should start heading back—although
people don’t eat dinner here until 8 or 9, the others had a longer walk than we
did. We made arrangements to meet again
tomorrow, and parted with—you guessed it—more hugs and kisses.
Ciao!
