Last night we went to a classical guitar concert at the Chiostro di Lucrezie. Jeremy & Florence chose to stay home, but the rest of us arrived at 7:35, a bit late. Except that it wasn't. The bad news is that I had forgotten the time. The good news is that we were actually 2 hours early. Which we should have known; nothing around here would start as early as 7:30 except maybe a dinner (arrival time, and an early one). So back home we went, to return around 9:15.
Of course it started late (expected). The courtyard was filled with chairs , but the concert ended up being standing room only, and we saw many familiar faces. Our first piece had me worried -- he created dramatic pauses before notes for emphasis (I hope), but it came across as hesitation due to underpracticing or not knowing the piece (still a possibility in hindsight).
After four pieces, he asked if anyone in the audience had a program, as he otherwise would not be able to play everything in order. Someone in the front row supplied him, and he continued. A few pieces later, he stopped twice in the midst of the piece to retune the guitar. You read that correctly.
The good news is that I had my knitting. And it was a lovely evening in the outdoor courtyard. And, as long as you didn't take it too seriously, the music was perfectly pleasant.
Love,
Alexandra
So enjoying the blog- my happy respite every day or so to go to Italy. Especially liked Eleanor's post about people watching, Olympics on Italian TV and Michael's shopping misadventure. Loved the knitting reference in this post which is what inspired me to go ahead and make a note. Cheers, all!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your note! I love finding out who's reading us! I'm working on a little black purselet for Florence -- she wants something big enough to hold a wallet & a handkerchief! I'm making it in a simple cotton. I'm nearly done with the strap, and then I'll be sewing on some beads.
